Shark Class M

Shark M is one half of year 5/6 at Cambois Primary School. We are taught by Miss Mcallister and Mrs Darbyshire.
Each day we start our mornings with a spelling lesson followed by Literacy and Maths. In the afternoons we follow a creative curriculum including Commando Joe's. These are the topics we are looking at this term:
Science: Properties and changes of materials
Geography: Terrestrial biomes
History: WW2, The Shang Dynasty and The Vikings
DT: Electronics
Art: Contemporary art
This half term we are looking at fractions. We started by working out what fraction of different shapes were shaded. We then played a game, matching the fraction to the picture.
This half term we have started doing gymnastics on a Friday with NUFC. We have been learning lots of different gymnastic shapes including the pike, straddle, mushroom, dish and pencil.
On Friday afternoons we have started Archery lessons. We have learnt about how to load the bow and arrow and how to aim at the target. It is so much fun and we are all improving with every shot!
This half term we have been looking at persuasive adverts. We have analysed the linguistic features in different adverts and begun to plan our own. We decided to base them on our class novel - Harry Potter. Here are some pictures of the broomsticks we have designed ready to market. Keep your eyes peeled for our adverts!
This week in RE we made Diya lamps out of salt dough to celebrate Diwali.
In Science, we have been looking at Natural Selection. We designed an experiment to test the theory. The counters were 'prey' and we became the 'predators'. Our partners gave us 5 seconds to collect in as many counters as possible. The ones which were green were less likely to be picked by us as the grass camouflaged it. This represents the animals that go on to have offspring and increase that colour in the gene pool. The counters that were red were most likely to be picked, these represent the animals that are eaten first as they are not well camouflaged.
Hi everyone, It's great to try and do a little bit of reading each day. Here's a list of 7 websites where you can find free books to read online. You might find a new favourite!

This year we have tried to make the Christmas celebrations bigger and better than ever! In class we have made calendars, cards and Christmas tree decorations for our families - we are so proud of them. We have also been very lucky and had lots of surprises in the last week on school. We had a Christmas party, two visits from Santa (one Zoom call!) and a Nerf gun war as our green trip on Friday! We hope you enjoy looking through some of the photos from this week.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from 5/6M!
Clarty Commandos
Earlier this term went on a trip to the Clarty Commandos forest school. We had so much fun! We completed the assault course as individuals and then as a team, lit fires, played in the mud kitchen, battled it out on the balance beams and so much more - it was the best day!
We are learning about celebrating differences this half term. We are focusing on the message  ‘Nobody is normal!’
After learning about the story of Roberta Cowell the first transgender woman, we have created our own poster to celebrate differences.
